why does my computer shut itself down??

whenver I use internet explorer, regardless of site I visit, I will suddenly get a blue background screen with the following message…DPAL error –Abnormal Parameter Passed In…in file .\hdlc.c at line 550 Please press any key to continue. Unfortunately, if I am not quick in pressing a key, the computer locks up & I have to re-boot. I have tried just about everything to no avail—any ideas folks???
