Win CE: Pocket PC OS

Hi Folks,

I am an old Psion 5 (EPOC OS) user, and decided it was time to take the plunge. Ditch the keyboard and go for a small footprint.

So purchased a Casiopeia EM500 Pocket PC. I charged up the battery (yes fully). While still connected to AC power, entered my first contact, and downloaded a few e-books. The battery in my Pocket PC was rated at 6 hours of continous use.

A while later (now running on batteries) I looked up that contact and read a few pages of e-book (~10 mins operation). I powered off the machine leaving the applications running.

I powered the machine back on a day later and was shocked to see the battery had fully discharged, even though the machine was off the entire time.

When I called Casio support, the rep advised me that I had to close down all my apps or the battery would drain like that.

All I had open was one contact and one e-book. My Psion’s battery (and my friends keyboard based Jornada) will hold out for
a month if its powered off with apps running.

Did I get bad advice from the support rep ?

In the end, I had to return the Cassiopeia, because I could not live with that kind of behaviour. I hated giving up so quickly, but I was leaving the area that I bought the machine in and didnt have time to ask around to see if I just got a bad unit.

Q1: Is this a Win CE problem, or did I just have a bad Cassiopeia or battery ?
