win2k pagefile/hibernation problem

I’ve installed an pcmcia IBM microdrive in a winbook z1 notebook with win2k installed. I then moved the page file to the microdrive, and off the main hard drive. the notebook now refuses to wake from hibernation, stalling at the “restarting windows” screen (the “thermometer” indicator will go all the way to the end, then it stalls).

any ideas to what’s causing this?
