Windows 2000 Pro Modem driver

I have installed Win 2000 Pro on my PC but I cannot get the modem working.
The modem is a connexant 56K soft modem made by Rockwell.
The driver is installing and there are no problems with the install but when you try an check the connection it says the port is already open.
Can you help?
