Windows 2000 Shutdown problems

One of my users, is having problems shuting down their PC. He has a PIII 800 Windows 2000 PC and the system ‘hangs’ when he shuts the computer down. Their is no change in screen, almost as if the command to shutdown is invalid (from start menu)

Any help would be gratefully received
