windows 98 SE

Windows 98 SE doesn’t recognize my US Robotics Modem and everything checks out with no conflicts. is it possible windows sees the modem as a pci multimedia device? i don’t have a pci multimedia device because the multimedia is built into the motherboard, but windows keeps telling me that i have a new pci multimedia device.
