Windows 98SE and Microtek ScanMaker 3600

When I boot up, I must have the scanner off and then turn it on after its up or or the scanner won’t work. Then, I can only scan once and after that, it won’t work. I’ve gone to the Microtek site and have done everything they suggested and it still does the same thing. Also, I have an intermittent shutdown problem with 98SE. They system is a Systemax AMD700, 65MB RAM, 20GB HD.
