windows installation problem

i used to be able to install windowsME on my custom build machine. after i install and later uninstalled windowsXP pro, i could not install windowsME over 10%. it always prompt out an error. I have check with microsoft website, follow their instruction and found that nothing was wrong. whats wrong? can anyone help?
