Windows Media Player 7.1 Not Working!!!

I have a machine running ME and the Windows Media stopped working. I have tried to reinstall and it still just hangs and will not work. No virus’ present. I am getting kernel32 errors and stack errors and also mmtask errors. Any suggestions?
