windows protection error

Trying to install hard drive to a hewlett packard motherboard (old) 1/ formatted drive, tried to install Win 95, message this drive has errors, cannot install. I know this drive has no errors. I tried formatting again on this computer. no errors,buttry to install win 95 and get message drive has errors. 2/ Tried a drive with Win 95 already installed got message Windows protection error you will have to reboot. When I do this it goes to Safe mode, press 3, goes to windows logo then nothing/ This drive works well on another computer. Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong.
