Windows protection error

by quietenterprises@yahoo . Updated 25 years ago

While visiting a friend, his computer surprisingly crashed and I received this error:
“While initializing device VKD:
Windows protection error. You need to restart your computer.

Press any key to continue…”

If I press any key or just leavethe computer alone, then I get the
“It’s now safe to turn off your computer” message.

After rebooting a few times I only get as far as the Windows 98 screen then I would receive the above message in both Normal and Safe modes.

CPU spec’s:
120 MHZ Pentium
AMIBIOS -CMOS – setup
32 MB
PRI Master – HD
PRI Slave – CD-ROM

Any insight as to where or what direction I should go to be able to fix my friend’s CPU.
