Windows Protection error – CONFIGMG:

I have a FIC VA503+ mobo running Win98SE with a K6-2 500 with 128mb and the latest bios.

The machine will not boot to gui and displays ‘While initialising device CONFIGMG: Windows Protection Error. You need to restart your computer.

It will operate normally (although slowly) if I disable the external cache in the bios.

Anyone know of a fix?
