Windows95/98 Ping.exe/Ipconfig.exe

Have just recently ran into about 30 computers installed at a site which will not run the ping or ipconfig command. When ran from the “command” or “msdos” prompt get the reply “This program cannot run in DOS mode.”

I have never run into this before any ideas?
