WinXP Pro & DSL Connection

by hcastro1031 . Updated 24 years, 4 months ago

Hello All:

Has anyone ever heard of an incompatibility / configuration issue with Windows XP Pro and broadband ADSL connections?

I recently built a new PC from scratch and bought an OEM version of Windows XP Pro 2002 with the hardware; I am using an Intel 850MVL motherboard with the NIC built in and was able to connect once using my always on ADSL connection but lost all connectivity a couple of hours later and have not been able o get it back online since. At least two weeks have passedand I have reinstalled the OS several times, downloaded and installed the lastest WHQL XP drivers for the Intel 850MVL chipset and Intel 100 Pro NIC, downloaded and installed the latest BIOS, played with the security policies within XP, replaced theLAN cable from the PC to the DSL modem (have also verified that the DSL line is still up with my old PC using Win98SE) and even disabled APM within the BIOS of the system. . .

I can ping loopback and also my static IP assigned by the ADSL provider, but cannot ping my default gateway any longer– I keep thinking that it is some OS filtering or control because XP’s local area network connection status reports that packets are being sent but only 1 packet is received; XP will also detect when Iturn off the DSL modem (e.g. LAN cable is unplugged) and turn it back on. . .

Does anyone have any other suggestions how I can get back to surfing worry free (other than go back to my old hardware)?

Thanks for any help that anyone can offer; Ifeel really embarassed that I can’t get a simple network connection working again.

Please let me know if a complete hardware / software list is needed.

Sincerely,
H
