won’t load boot disk

by lynne . Updated 24 years, 3 months ago

I’m troubleshooting an Acer Aspire with an AMD K62 200, 32MB RAM, Quantum Bigfoot, etc, etc. (I know you ask, why bother….nevertheless…)

Problem is, I believe the HD and more is bad. When I could boot from floppy, it appeared that someone had run scandisk and found scads of errors. Now I can only get partway through the boot from a 98 setup disk…usually hangs around “Start Computer with CD ROM Support”

It goes thru POST and displays CPU, memory, HD as all set in BIOS. BIOS is set to boot from Floppy. I’ve pulled the HD, tried another HD, tried another floppy. The same on all. CPU & memory and cables are all seated. Do you think I’ve got a mother board problem or something else?

Give me some ideas before I have to tell this guy that he’s got a worthless box of junk. Thanks.

Lynne
