XP and Home networking

Having set up a home network using Win2k I have am trying with XP. The only way I access the other PCs(98 sytems ) was to add their names in the Host file. The only problem is I cannot see the XP machine on the Network Neighbourhood. Is it to do with ‘Group Policies’? I did not have any trouble file and printer sharing with 2K.
