zip drive (internal) connecting

Working in a school enviroment: Was given 30 computers with zip drive. Removed one and wanted to install on computer at desk(compaq)
Not having much luck..looking for suggestions. currently hd on primary/master, cd secondary/master and zip secondary slave. Can’t get to read.
Note: windows 98 (doesn’t pick up new hardware) Have change the jumper everywhich way, change cd to slave and zip to master.
looking for suggestions.
