Andrew Rudson has written an app for Windows that allows you to turn your Rock Band drum kit into a drum machine that you can use to play and record your Neil Peart-esque rhythms. I tried it out at the office on Friday and at home over the weekend and it works great.

Here is what you need to do to get rockin’:

  1. Download and install the Drum Machine app from Andrew’s site
  2. Connect your Rock Band drums to your Windows PC
Windows should recognize the drum kit and install the necessary drivers
  3. Fire up the Drum Machine app

If you get an error about a missing .DLL file, you will need to update your DirectX drivers. I got that message on both machines that I installed Drum Machine on; however, after updating DirectX, it worked as advertised.

Andrew has a video on YouTube and his site showing the software in action.
