iQOO is pairing a 9,000 mAh battery with an active cooling fan in its upcoming Neo12, targeting mobile gamers who want longer sessions.
The company has revealed key specifications ahead of an expected China launch this month, according to 91mobiles.
For buyers, the appeal is more time away from a charger and potentially steadier gaming performance. Whether the hardware delivers those benefits will depend on real-world testing.
High-refresh screen and flagship silicon
According to 91mobiles, the Neo12 will use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor alongside iQOO’s proprietary Q3 gaming chip. To keep thermal throttling in check, the device integrates an active cooling fan into what the company calls an “Ice-Dome” system.
Up front, the device carries a flat 2K OLED panel with a 185Hz refresh rate, co-developed with Chinese panel maker Visionox and researchers from Tsinghua University. According to the company, the screen utilizes fourth-generation pTSF luminescent technology aimed at reducing power draw while sustaining peak clarity.
In a translated statement, Hui said the phone will bring users “ultra-level performance domination,” noting it is built to deliver “stable frame rates, cool screens, and responsive controls after hours of continuous high-quality gameplay.” Pre-orders have opened in China, and 91mobiles reports the handset could reach select overseas markets under the iQOO 16R moniker.
What the cooling fan could mean for buyers
As smartphone hardware evolves, sustained performance remains an important buying consideration. The Neo12’s active fan is designed to help manage heat, but its effectiveness needs testing during extended gaming sessions.
Buyers should look for measurements of frame-rate stability, surface temperature, battery drain, and fan noise. A short benchmark run cannot show how comfortable or consistent the phone will be after prolonged use.
Portability and durability also need closer inspection. Unlike the emphasis on thinness seen in devices such as the iPhone Air, the Neo12’s pitch centers on gaming hardware. Its specifications alone do not establish how heavy or thick it will be, or how well it will resist water and dust.

What buyers should weigh beyond the gaming specs
The Neo12’s hardware targets people who play demanding games for extended periods. For those buyers, consistent performance after an hour matters more than a strong result in a short benchmark. Independent reviews should show whether frame rates remain steady as the phone warms up, whether it stays comfortable to hold, and whether the fan produces distracting noise.
The 9,000 mAh battery should be assessed alongside measured runtime and charging time. Demanding games, high brightness, and higher frame rates can increase power consumption, so capacity alone cannot establish how long a gaming session will last. Similarly, the 185Hz display matters most if the games buyers actually play support higher frame rates without unacceptable compromises in graphics quality.
For everyday use, buyers should weigh gaming performance against camera quality, weight, software support, and portability. Those outside China should also confirm local availability, carrier compatibility, warranty coverage, and repair options before considering an imported model. A possible overseas version does not establish that the phone will receive an official launch in their market.
The strongest reason to consider the Neo12 is whether it addresses a problem with the buyer’s current phone: short battery life, uncomfortable heat, or falling frame rates during long sessions. If those problems are absent, the larger battery and faster display may offer little reason to upgrade. Pricing and independent testing will help establish whether its gaming hardware delivers enough practical value.
