Opening zip files

How do you open a zip file?

I downloaded a file from the Techrepublic web site and first, as I did not save it, it downloaded and never appeared. I found the file with an explorer sign next to it, but when I tried to open it with explorer, it didnot open. When I downloaded it again, I saved it in word, clicked all files (not zip in the pull down menu) that did not work as when I opened it, it was gibberish. Help!!!!

Greetings,

You'll need a copy of Winzip on your computer. Go to www.winzip.com to download a free evaluation copy.

Maxwell

go to www.download.com and search for winzip.

WinZIP is in version 8.0 now; download it and install it. It will unzip/extract *.zip files since that is a common method of distributing sets of files.

Although this is "shareware," you do not need to pay for this software unless you are needing to make or create your own zipped up files for distribution. The unzipping portion of the software does not expire.

If you have windows 98 you can get the plus! pack and install the zip/unzip ability integrated into windows explorer.

Else use winzip or www.pkware.com and download pkzip/unzip program also.
