/PAE switch in BOOT.INI causes problem

By Yike ·
Windows 2000 could not start because the following file is
missing or corrupt:

<windows 2000 root>\system32\ntoskrnl.exe

Please reinstall a copy of the above file.

After following the directions of MS KnowledgeBase article
Q268363 (modifying the boot.ini to include the /PAE
switch) the above message is when I get when I reboot.

I've looked all over the web and through
TechNet/KnowledgeBase without finding anything about this
possibility, anyone have any ideas? When I remove
the /PAE switch from the boot.ini the system is fine, no
problems.
