Which Linux?

by OH Smeg In reply to wireless for Linux

There are over 2,000 different Distro's and while they all loosely follow the same Development Outline they are different so what works for one may not work for another Distro. Also there is a difference between the desktop and Server editions in the same Distro. The Desktop Versions tend to have better support for Hardware where as the Server Versions have better support for Server Applications.

Generally speaking Ubuntu works out of the Box with all Wireless devices but they need to be plugged in when you install it.

As for the Individual Driver for this Belkin Device you can try either Belkin

http://www.belkin.com/support/search/?q=Belkin+USB+Wireless+Adapter+FSD8055

or your Distro Maker for a suitable driver.

Also Belkin do not list a FSD8055 see here

http://www.belkin.com/support/search/?q=Belkin+USB+Wireless+drivers

They do however list a FSD8051 so is this your Device?

http://www.belkin.com/support/product/?lid=en&pid=F5D8051&scid=221

If it is the Drivers for it are located here

http://www.belkin.com/support/article/?lid=en&pid=F5D8051&aid=6004&scid=221

But they do not have any drivers for Linux.
