    2016 booting to blackscreen

    by muokis ·

I have a hyper v which lost power. Host is booting ok and loading the VMS without error. The VMs are unable to load guest OS instead I am getting black screen. Ping is responding. I have tried to load the disks on anew a new VM but I am getting same error. Any idea how this can be resolved?

If changing the VM doesn’t help, the next try is changing Windows. First try it on another PC, and if that works, do a clean install of Windows on this PC.

What, by the way, is a 2016? And what hardware is a “hyper v” that lost power?

I don’t know what the OP is referring to. Cell phone or computer? Does VM = Voice Mail? Hard to offer advice without more information.

A VM is a virtual machine. That’s a program running in an OS (say, Windows 10) that internally runs another OS (say, Linux), but uses the host OS (Windows in this example) to communicate with the outside world (keyboard, mouse, printer, internet, etc).

For Windows it’s just a file. You can make a backup copy (comes in handy if the original fails because of a power failure) or copy it to another PC and it still works.
