Firstly BOTH computers are severely low on RAM for such software and should BOTH render slow.

I would say it is a problem with spyware or an open process using up resources whlie rendering.

Check that the swap file is set to the same size on both, on the slower machine, run Adaware Free from lavasoft.com and also run a virus scan, I recommend using AVGfree edition as opposed to MacAffe or Norton as they are BOTH huge resource hods, Norton is the worst cuprit.

I had an another question at this section about the hangup of Autocad2000 during plotter preview action, and the following answer I received, which not only rectify the Autocad Plotting problem but improve the speed of rendering too.

The answer was--
What version of AutoCAD? Is it AutoCAD 2000? Are you talking about the plot preview?

If you are experiencing fatal errors when plotting to Windows System printer devices you can correct the problem by installing the AutoCAD 2000 Plotting Patch.

Download the AutoCAD 2000 Plotting Update Patch at the Autodesk Product Support website. There are several versions of this update available. Make sure you download the appropriate version for your software.

Be sure to close all open sessions of AutoCAD 2000 before applying the patch.
