40 Gig hard drive detection

Pentium II, 500Mhz, 128 Ram, Micro Star MS 6119 mother board, running Windows XP Pro. The bios will not detect the WD 40 Gig Hard drive either as a master or slave. It has no problem detecting the smaller drive 2.1 Gig or 5 Gig. The drive has been checked, OK. Might there be a problem with the bios, when it boots it shows Award 1993-1998, something like that. Went to Micro Star but there no support for that MB anymore.

Usually BIOS limitation

On older boards it is usually the BIOS that limits recognition of drives larger than a certain size (varies depending on the BIOS).
Either find a BIOS for that board that will allow the drives to be recognized, or use a controller card, like a Promise card, to allow the card to be recognized.
