PC Games and Console Games

by CG IT In reply to A Day in the Life of an R ...

Console games have been all the rage and high profile where as PC games, which I'm an avid player, haven't had much in the way of good solid fun games be release in the last 12 months.

I belong the the =SEALZ= online gaming community who's web site it hosted by Dasmerg.net you can visit them at http://www.dasmerg.net

I'm currently playing Eve Online. Tried the Dungeon Siege 2 demo from Fileplanet [it's so so] and played some Doom 3 for a while.

PC Games and Console Games

What did you think of Doom 3? I tried the demo, but it seemed so dark.

I'm looking forward to the next Medal of Honor game that's coming this summer.

Do you ever go to TechRepublic's sister site, GameSpot <www.gamespot.com>?

PC Games and Console Games

by CG IT In reply to PC Games and Console Game ...

I played Doom 3 when it first came out. Wild Game. I loved it!

I am a registered member with Gamespot and visit frequently. The developer interview videos are great as well as the actual ingame video clips. Way back when 1999/2000 when broadband first came out the gaming group I belong to looked into having a site devoted to actual in-game video clips of the different new games because reviews and screenshots don't actually tell how the game really is. We didn't get it up [cost] but Gamespot did.

Right now, the PC Gaming market is going down hill. Developers and publishers are all going to the console platform rather than create PC games or are creating cross platform games [UbiSoft] which really degrades the quality of PC games in my opinion. But console games are for young kids and thats the biggest market for games [but $50.00 for a console game and the developers will price themselves out of the market].

PC Gamers are older gamers who have the $$ to spend. They want high end graphics and great game play with a good story line. Most don't like consoles but get em cuz thats the only new stuff coming out.

TR coffee mugs and tee shirts

by CG IT In reply to A Day in the Life of an R ...

I figured out why I would never ever never get a coffee mug in the mail. I don't have my address listed.

Smorty, can I get a mug if I send you my address instead of having it in my profile???

About those tee shirts.....

Chucked the Cisco right out the Window

by CG IT In reply to A Day in the Life of an R ...

Have a 2502 token ring router laying around and one of the other IT guys wanted to mess around with token ring. So I let them. Bad mistake. Somehow they messed it up to where we couldn't even talk to it over the console port. It isn't worth much but I've learned. Never let someone else mess with the equipment.

side business consultant jobs.

by CG IT In reply to A Day in the Life of an R ...

Got a call this morning from a well known IT temp agency asking if I would do them a big favor today [seeing as I do consult work for them] Sure, no problem, be glad to help, not much pressing at work and not due to go in until later tonight so what the heck.

Man, What a mess I walked into. They had their patch panels wall mounted sideways [room wasn't a problem really] and the wiring reminded me of my spagetti dinner 2 nights ago. The kicker was the Linksys 16 port switch that was taped! thats right taped with electricians tape onto the patch panel mounting brackets [wondered who did that]. Called their help desk guys telling em they need a rack. Yep they knew that. wondered if they knew the 16 port switch was hanging by tape. Nope they didn't know that. So while I'm on the phone the guy and using tie wraps to secure the switch he says Hey, we got a new monitor coming by FedEx could you put it in while your there? Sure no problem. Sure enough, while we are talking here comes FedEx with the new monitor. Oh, btw its for the IBM POS system. Sure no problem. So out I go onto the retail floor and install a new monitor for their IBM POS system. Help desk calls me and asks, Oh, btw theres a camera there, can you take pics of the equipment? Sure, no problem, This is 5 pm. Get the camera. Doesn't work. Call the guy back up, he's gone for the day. I dunno, but whoever setup their wall mount patch panels, ran the cables and used electricians tape to tape the switch to the patch panel bracket ought to have been striped naked, dragged throught the streets with a sign that says Brain dead tied to ....

So the temp agency calls me, I'm headed to work by now, Hey can you do us a big favor, sure whats up, can you take pictures? Sure no problem. So tomorrow I got back take pics. Can't wait for the guy to call me and say Oh, btw FedEx is coming.

Sad state of IT if this is how techs setup sites.

To bad we can

by CG IT In reply to A Day in the Life of an R ...

Yesterday I mentioned the Linksys Hub taped with electricians tape onto the sideway mounted patch panels. Today I took a picture of it. Have to post it somewhere. This is a retail store, one of 200+ retail stores throughout the US. Wonder if the other stores look like this one.

Anywho, the temp agency didn't call today to see if I would do them a favor.

Anyone want a Cisco 2524 Token Ring without any serial ports? Finally got into it with the CTL-BRK and reloaded.
