A Smart Soul To Help a Not-so-Smart Soul

By sat.soporte ·
I'm running Win98 on a Satellite 2545 CDT. When I installed the Windows Update and rebooted, Windows does load but I cannot see any of the icons or do anything with the mouse. It does ask me for my network password, but when I press enter or ESC, the screen is blank, I only see the background color. How can I fix this?

Try to boot up in safe mode and uninstall the update.

It is likely that the Windows update corrupted one or more system driver files.

Boot into safe mode (press F8 when starting Windows appears at the bottom of your screen)

Right click on an open area of the desktop, select properties, and set your display settings to 16 color and 480*640 mode.

Re-boot.

You should now be in "normal" windows mode.

Re-install the drivers for your motherboard / chipset and your video card.

That should take care of things.

I tried that, but the mouse buttons didn't respond neither. I reinstalled Windows. Thanks anyway.
