About IP address of Web Sites

Hi,
I would like to know abt DNS.When we enter www.yahoo.com then it gives u some ip in status bar.And when we write mail.yahoo.com then again it gives u ip but different.I want to know where these IP stored.They are fake IP’s assigned on NIC card.Or they defined in DHCP.I want to know more abt it.
