Microsoft Foundation Classes - the classes behind programming for Windows. Go to MS's web site and do a search on MFC. Using these classes saves alot of tedious programming. Although obvious in C++, other Windows programming environments rely on these classes.

Microsoft Foundation Classes allow easier, more efficient programming of Windows environments by encapsulating many of the objects (a window, a command button, a pull-down menu) and ideas (device contexts used for writing to the screen, writing to aprinter) pertaining to programming windows (or more specifically, the Win32 API). MFC is used exclusively for Visual C++; since that is the best environment to program high-performance Windows apps (it too is a RAD tool wherein controls can be added to a window visually), most every app written for windows is written in VC++ (and hence, MFC).

I hope this helps; I can supply you with a more detailed explanation if you desire (or if you want to bribe me with morw points!). Probably the best reference on the subject (as well as the best lead-in on how/why it's used for Windows development) is Charles Petzold's book "Programming Windows using MFC"...
