About Windows 98 Networking

I have 10 windows 98 system configured on tcp/ip.I am using class c ip address and range is from to i am facing some problem i can't access one system.It displays the computer name but when i try to access it gives me invalid sharename or computer name.
I checked the cable and all network settings but still problem is same.How to solve it.

First thing to do is to check that the machine you CAN'T access has 'File and Print Sharing' activated, that the newtork settings (especially subnet mask) are the same as the rest of the network, and that you have a resource on that machine set for general sharing, that is a folder with permissions for others to read or write to.

This problem often comes up when you don't have a shared folde on a machine.

Here is what I suggest. First what is your gateway address? I would use for that. Then change the one using that to the next highest number Also make sure your computer name is unique from the others. Hope this helps.

1- The computer should be on the same Same Workgroup...
which should have same subnet mask
2- Print and file sharing should be enabled..for a system to share its resouces..


can you ping each machine from each other machine..?if so then I see no other reason for it not to share.... the way try a differenet Network card...maybe swaping around helps..

check to see if that machine name is proper...I.E. is the machine named properly. look at the names of the other machines that are working correctly!
