      They didn’t really disown Windows 7 or 8. They just stopped supporting and updating it.

      For Windows 10 there will still be free updates until October 2025. After that, you’ll have to pay for those security updates.

      It makes little to no sense for Microsoft to support multiple/older versions of Windows past a few years old. Kind of like asking why they no longer support/update Windows 3.1.
