Access 2000 Report - Portrait/Landscape

By peterk ·
I have an ongoing problem with Access 2000 and printing reports. In the database there are quite a few reports that need to be printed as landscape and a few more that are portrait. The problem is that Access seems to have a mind of its own and whenpreviewed a report that should be landscape comes up portrait and the user then needs to change the page setup to correct this. Is there a way to make Access keep the correct position.

Try saving the reports after selecting the desired format, otherwise Access prints in the format that was last selected.

That's the way it worked in '97 anyway.

Hi Peter: Go into your report in design view and choose File|Page Setup. Select the Page tab and switch the format from portrait to landscape; click OK. Save the report before going to Print Preview mode (either click the Save icon or choose File|Save. Close the report and re-open it in Print Preview mode. You should now be viewing it in Landscape and you will be able to print in Landscape that time and every time you open the report. Hope this helps. -DJ

What is happening is a common problem to Access. In Access the printer information is stored with the report. This means that when the user prints to a different printer, the system defaults take back over and the report is printed in Portrait mode. There are te=wo ways to solve the problem. Set a "specific" printer for the reports to print to. Or, programatically change the printer settings with (I think) PrintDev API functions.
