Access 97 file can't be read by Access 2

By rmessier ·
I built and Access Database in Access 97. When I try to access my database in Access 2000 I keep getting a message "The current user account doesn't have permission to convert or enable this database". I have gone into Access 97 and to make sure there is NO SECURITY setup on this file. I can take this file to ANY pc with Access 97 and it opens fine. When I go to ANY pc with Access 2000 I keep getting the same message. I can't do ANYTHING with ths file, not even convert it to Access 97. I never get that far. I have even gone to Executrain and asked the instructor, she too was puzzled and got he same results as I did.

Here are two articles that, hopefully, will address your problem.
Type one of the following in the address box of Intenet Explorer:

MSKB Q232589

or

MSKB Q224341

yes, this is what I'm experiencing also, i installed Access 97 over the access 2000, and I'm able to read the Access 97 db.

you need to continue to maintain access 97 until your client has migrated to access 2000.

bear in mind, that both version are not compatible because Access 2000 has SQL 2000 components with it, so it's a total new architecture.

Until I had a PC with both versions, I could not convert or read most of the queries or forms. By having both versions open and attempting to import to access 2000 I found that all locks had to be off and all admin and user permissions had to be admin capable or Access 2000 was locked out, this is under the security -> User and Groups permissions -> Users and Groups (allow all permissions)

Need to do this for all tables, queries, forms, reports, etc..., Quickest way to find the offending party is to try to import to a new access 2000 database.
