access data validation conundrum

By ironfist03 ·
i am trying construct a field data validation in an access 2000 form where it validates that a typed in part number is a valid part number.. i have the valid part numbers in a seperate table but have not found the correct syntax yet to have what is typed in the field validate against the valid parts table..

i would just get it working for now the easy way, have the user select the part number from the pulldown list of existing part numbers. user will have to Add a New Part Number as a separate action. just make a simple switchboard based application like the Northwind sample databbase free for download from www.microsoft.com or available and including the invaluable VB help files on the 2nd Office installation CD. also see for free download the sample forms database from microsoft. also look in Access Help for 'filling in form fields based on the record selected'

although that was not what i would consider to be the easiest method as i have over 18,000 items to validate against,, i do appreciate your response.. the easiest method i have found is change the field to a combo box then take the field i need to validate..construct a query on the table data to validate against in the row source.. make the limit to list = yes and it works very handily.. if the entry person types in a good number they continue on,, if its a bogus number it puts the brakes on..
