Access DB Duplicates Itself

By teamvredenburg ·
I have an access db shared out to my department on our Dell Poweredge 4300 server. Without any prompting from myself or anyone else the db simply duplicates itself, I call the original db "db2" each duplicate then counts up ie; "db023,db024,db025..." do you know where the setting is located that activates this feature? If so where is it?

Access DB Duplicates Itself

It looks like it is set to run a compact/repair and the copy is not deleted.
More Info:
An Access DB has to be compacted every so often (like every DB). For this reason most developers will program your access application to do it when ever it is started (or every couple of times it is started), or they will have a command button that allows you to do it. MSAccess has this option on the tools menu, however this is only available if you use Access to access the DB. The only way to compact an access DB into itself is using the Tools option in Access, if you do it via code it needs a copy of the DB. In most cases a programmer will not delete the new file (which is actualy the old file) so it can be used for backup (in case the compact damaged the DB).

Sorry, I forgot to give you a solution.
To work around this, first find out if this is the problem (call up the programmer). Next if this is the problem you can safely deleted those files.
