Access Locked UP

By jwblaylock ·
I have and end user that has a ACCESS data base that is used for timekeeping for active duty military. User is getting "Access denied" File has been locked for exclusive use" or something like that. The end user has closed the db, my CIO has even moved the files to another drive. Still getting that error message. My question how or what can I look at and try and get the db unlocked.

when an access database is open a new file with the same name will appear in the same folder.

that file is a lock file.

when access is closed, the lock file should disappear.

when it does not, you have to manually delete it.

so look in the folder that access database file is in and delete all files with the same name as the database except for the .mdb file

Just a few thoughts. (Which version of MS Access?)
- The Access app might be trying to use a file (shared dll etc) that is already locked on the PC. Shut all other apps down to bare essentials.
- The Access app might be performing an autoexec code function, when it starts. Use the shift key to bypass.
Open MS Access first, then open the Access app (exclusively).
- MS Access might be missing some of its files (or perhaps they are corrupted?). Try re-installing MS Access.
- Perhaps the user doesn't have appropriate access to the directory in which the Access app is being stored.

Ask the users to reboot their machines. Sometimes windows forgets to release its locks on a file.

The easiest way to fix it is to reboot the machines.
