Access the office PC at home

By addison99 ·
I want to be able to access files on my office PC from home.

At home I am running Windows XP Pro and at work Windows ME.

As far as I can tell I have set the correct network protocols on my home PC but I keep getting disconnected after the verification hads taken place.

Hope you can help

If work computer is connected to a network, which is accessed through a server then you would need the system admins to set up permissions on the server end to allow access,VPN is a network setup that will give you this option, see ref. to VPN at Microsoft knowledgbase.

There's a very important set of details missing from your question: how are you connecting from home to the office? For example, are you connecting to your office workstation itself using an analog modem connection and a remote control product like pcAnywhere? Or are you trying to connect over the Internet to your office workstation via your office LAN?

The more details -> the better answer.

Ah.... now I understand. Your best source of information is going to be whoever maintains your RAS server because it sounds like a domain authentication issue.

My guess is that your WinXP workstation is not authenticating to the domain, probablybecause it hasn't been made a member of the your office domain. That is something that does work differently between Win98SE and Win2k/WinXP and would be something your network administrator would need to fix.
