Has anyone come across this type of message and found a solution? While attempting to access MS Office files:
‘PowerPoint was unable to open or save this document. Please ensure that you have access privleges to read or write the document and that it is not encrypted.’
‘Word cannot save or create this file. Make sure the disk you want to save the file on is not full, write protected, or damaged.’
‘Excel cannot access [filename.xls]. The document may be read-only or encrypted.’
Scenario:
An HDD running WinXP needed replacement, so all files were due to be migrated to a new computer. The user profile was required for the files and settings (App Data, NTUSER.DAT etc.) The dodgey HDD was accessed by placing the HDD into a removable caddy in a new computer. I can see the files I want, but their names appear in one colour and all of them cannot be accessed for similar reasons.
Access permissions have been verified (Full access), and there is no encryption enabled.
Will changing the SID for the replacement drive (running WinXP) to the SID of the replaced drive enable access to these files?
