Account locked out check box disabled

I have got a couple of calls this morning from different user saying that they cant log on. When I check it out in User Manager, the checkbox beside "Account Locked out" is disabled. Can somebody explain this to me please??(i'm relatively new to this game, so be please be nice)

Sorry I should have said what platforms I'm working on. Its nt server and the users are logging on at w2k pro workstations..

Is this the only domain controller in the only domain in which they log into?

We only have one domain. Any clues? Is it possible that if someone else is logged into that account would cause it i.e. Logged in under the users username/password, that this could cause the problem??

right click on the user in active directory on the domain controller. user manager is for the local computer only.
