Acer Aspire 5101 – cmos battery?

    Locked

    by wstainsby ·

    Hello all,

My year old acer has started to lose track of the date and time and i need to reset this in bios every now and again. i am guessing it is a CMOS battery error and think i will replace it, but i was just wondering if any one can tell me what type of battery i will need? and where it will be located?
The amin board is an Acer Navarro.

    thanks in advance

I may be wrong but I beleave newer laptops no longer have a CMOS battery. It uses the main laptop battery.

But I’m not a 100% certain. Had a Dell with a similar problem and Dell replaced the main battery to resolve.

On the older Acers it was simple . . .

The CMOS battery was on the end of a slim twisted cable coming up from the motherboard, sitting in a little holder wrapped in shrink-film.

You’d usually find it when you removed the fascia behind the keyboard (between the keyboard and the laptop screen-hinges).

Don’t know about the newer models but the chassis design hasn’t changed much so that’s where I’d start first.
