    Acer Aspire 5580-6432

I am looking for a notebook and was wondering what people thought of Acer in general, as well as this model specifically. It has an Intel Core 2 Duo T5500 with 2GB of 533Mhz DDR2, 120GB 5400 RPM harddrive, 224MB shared video RAM, and weighs 5.3lbs. Looking at the display model in the store, the screen seems to have annoying glare, but hopefully one could get used to it. The price is the best I’ve been able to find for those specs, at $899.

I’m pretty much stuck with that price range, so my only options are to take this or cut specs to go with another brand. What would you recommend I do?

Also, the battery life is 2.5 – 3 hours. Is this about what I should expect or could I do a lot better, even in this price range?

    *EDIT*
My final decision is between the notebook mentioned above and an Acer 5050-3242 with a price of $599. It has an AMD Turion 64 MK-36 2.0Ghz with 1GB RAM and a 100GB HDD. Would the 1.6Ghz Core 2 Duo perform better than the 2.0Ghz AMD Turion 64? Is it worth the $300 to get the Core 2 Duo and the extra 1GB of RAM?

I had one and found it very reliable and good overall. The bad side is that the support is not very good and the bios updates are very primitive in their implementation.

I bought 2 5580 laptops for our company, and have had to reinstall the op system on one already.
The boot up becomes very slow, and customer support were no help, they suggested I defrag my hard drive.
On the USA web site, they do not have the computer in the drop down list, when you search for software update, I could not get an answer as to why that is.
I would not buy another Acer, they are cheap and crap, and I will be putting warnings about them over the internet.
I will also post a copy of the customer ticket, so people can have a good laugh.

when i brought mine it had win xp installed with the provision of windows vista capable .
after 14 months i finally upgraded it to vista home premium and 2 specific problems.
couldnt use the geforce go 7300 driver, features where disabled. ended up using the nvidia driver version number 101.65 fixed all its graphics issues.
the second issue was batt life, it will give u a maximum of 1.3 hours.
the unit itself has a very stable duo core cpu and the specs are ample enough for everyday work.
i personally think that the unit is worth buying, if you do run into any problems with drivers , there are numerous vista drivers available now.
