Acer Travelmate asks for password but wont allow keyboard to work

I have a acer travelmate 2200 laptop that asks for the BIOS password when you turn the computer on. The trouble is the keyboard does not allow any letters or numbers to be entered. Essentially the keyboard does not work. I have tried plugging a usb keyboard in but the same problem is present. The usb keyboard does not allow any characters to be entered.

Also when you turn the laptop on the acer screen does not show “press F2 to enter BIOS” or any other messages such a “press F11 for system recovery”.

I am sure it is not a broken keyboard as the computer should not ask for the BIOS password at all unless entering the BIOS. It is almost as though the computer is stuck in a loop where all it wants to do IS enter the BIOS. Does anyone know of any key combinations that could have beed pressed which changed the keyboards functions.

I have tried removing the battery and draining the power but nothing makes any difference.
