Add records to split Acces DB

We are trying to cut down on Network trafit so we split a databse program and now we are not able to add records. Before if we searched for a part number and it was not found, the form would come up empty and if we had the numbers we could type them in and they would be added. Can we get this to still do this with a split database? This is in Access 2000
