You will have to do a little more digging on this but here are the leads:

For linux you need to use your video driver configuration command. In /usr/sbin or /usr/bin do an ls *config. This will give back the different video drivers you have on your machine. One of them is for your video card (Not 100% sure about Linux but I believe in /dev/fb or /dev/fbs there will be a link to your video (i.e. /dev/fb/m640 would tell you that you could use m64config as your video driver). Anyway somewhere in /dev/ there should be a link for the video that matches one of the config files in /usr/sbin or /usr/bin. Then you can use (assuming pgx video) pgxconfig -res 1024x768x75 to change it. Before you do this you could do pgxconfig -res ?. This will list all possible resolutions supported by your configuration tool and tell you which ones are not supported by your video card and which ones are not supported by your monitor.
This should get it for you.

exit out of xwindow to the command line, and then type

Xconfigurator

This will run you through an Xwindow setup program and one of the options will be to choose screen resolutions.

After you set it up, you should be able to cycle through different resolutions by hitting CTRL-ALT-+ (or -) on the numerical keypad.

Hi, Kev is correct. You need to get to Xconfigurator to change your vid setting.
Good Luck,

The following URL may help you understand what happened and an easy manual way to fix it:

http://ctdp.tripod.com/os/linux/usersguide/index.html

Read item 40 about "X Configuration". About one third of the way down is a section about the screen section. It describes the virtual desktop in the /etc/X11/XF86Config file. You can modify the virtual settings to match your screen size. Back up your current /etc/X11/XF86Config file before making any changes or configuring.
