File Association

by Admin-Stuart In reply to Adobe Photo Shop 6.0

This is a file association problem. I don't know how pdf's got hijacked, but to reassociate them with acroread x.0 (Assuming Win 9x system):
1. Open My Computer
2. Open View menu - Folder Options. . .
3. Select File Types tab.
4. Scroll to the file type that uses .pdf extension (shown in file type details window), should be Adobe Acrobat Document.
5. Select to highlight, then click Edit.
6. In the Actions window, highlight "open", then click Edit.
7. In the "application used to perform action" field, it shows the program used to open pdf's (pathway should end with "AcroRD32.exe"). You can use the browse button next to the box to look for the AcroRd32.exe file in your system. Probably c:\program files\Adobe\Acrobat x.0\Reader\AcroRD32.exe. Select it. OK and close open windows to back out to desktop.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

Another way perhaps easier

by Admin-Stuart In reply to File Association

Follow steps 1-4 as in first post. Highlight Adobe Acrobat Document by clicking on it once, then click "Remove" button, then click "OK" to exit. Next, find an Adobe Acrobat document on your PC (icon for it will look different), doubleclick to open. This will open a window titled "Open with" and a list of programs. "AcroRD32 should be near the top of the list. Select it, make sure the box next to "Always use this program to open this file" is checked, and then click "OK". This should restore proper file association also.

Thanks!

For some reason the .pdf extension was not listed in the "files type" window. With my patience level what it is, I just reinstalled AR5 and all is right with the world.
Thanks again.
