Adobe Reader

By wesley.chin ·
There is an 8.1.2 version of it to address security issues with the software. All of the computers here are standalone.

When 8.1.1 came out, I went to each computer individually to update each installation. With 8.1.2, the higher ups said that the update would be done automatically. They are thinking that Adobe will be able to push the update, similar to how Windows Update does it. That is all well and good, but I am skeptical that Adobe has the ability to do that. Does anyone know if Adobe has that ability?

Not sure

by ComputerCookie In reply to Adobe Reader

about two weeks ago after I had opened an online document a message popped up about installing updates, I said OK. Don't remeber much about it!

After seeing your post I checked and I only have 8.1.1. So I downloaded updates, will keep an eye on it now that you've mentioned it.

No they don't but they do have the ability to offer the update

To the End Users to click on to install.

Depending on how the workstations or whatever are setup and how they connect to the Network there may be something incorporated in the server here but if these are stand alone workstations you need to click on the Update Option when it's offered.

The Adobe Update Software is only to tell the user that there is a new Product or Update available and give them the chance to install it when it becomes available. At least that's how it's working here.

That is what I had thought too. And yes, the computers here are all standalone. There is no server. What version of Reader is being used?

There are some older systems here. Those have versions earlier than 8. is there an update option for those versions?

Adobe 8 is for XP and Vista, download 8.1.1 and update 8.1.2 from this link;

I don't think so as the Update Software

by OH Smeg In reply to I see

Only became available with Version 8.

I have a old 98 System here running Adobe Reader 6 and that doesn't ask for any updates to be applied. Not sure about V 7 though as I moved everything over to the newest version of Adobe when it became available.

Sorry Smeg

did you read my reply, V8 is for XP and Vista. Last time I tried to download it on a W2K machine it wouldn't install! However they now claim it to be compatible with W2K with SP4.
