Advice for College Senior

I am a Senior in ISDS at LSU in Baton Rouge. I am also a student worker in the Helpdesk at a state department. What advice would you give me as to (1) career directions, (2) IT focus, (3) any other tips would be appreciated.

There’s only one possible source for the “best” advice for YOUR career direction. That source is your own heart. It’s really quite simple – turn your dreams into goals. The only trick is to make sure you give your goals deadlines. Break down large and long-term goals into smaller, more measurable ones. And make sure everything you do – and think about – is taking steps forward towards those goals. Obstacles will be easily overcome if you remain focused on those goals. And, I mightadd, your limits are defined by no one but yourself. The IT focus you ask about will define itself once the journey to your new career begins.

I could offer you two other “tips”. Treat everyone you meet as though they are the most important, regardless of who they are. Save (and invest) 20% of your income. If you do, you’ll be free of money constraints by the time you’re 40.
