After removal O2K still wants CD!

By superbat ·
Tried O2K. Had lots of little, but annoying problems. After attempts to fix, gave up & removed it. Ran the O2K eraser from MicroSoft. Fixed MSIE 5.5 missing fonts & Outlook mailbox problems caused by extraction, & re-loaded Office 97. Even now, when I spell check in Outlook Express, a pop-up window opens & asks for the O2K CD. I cancel & Word 97 does spell check. Is there any way, short of format C: to get rid of this thing's hooks? It just won't die!!! Talk about programs violatingALL of Microsoft's rules!!! There is no uninstall (that works anyway!) Thanks.

From all the problems you have encountered in trying to remove the office suite,i donot think anothe short cut is needed, other that to reformat the hard drive and start over. The time it has taken you may have considered this.

You probably still have keys left in the registry from O2K. You could try a registry cleaning utility - that should clean up anything that the Eraser didn't remove. Here's a link to Regclean 4.1a http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q147/7/69.ASP

Melody

Microsoft trys to always keep all your information whenever you update or upgrade which is nice but sometimes when you try to down grade or go back files that are in use are not always deleted are changed when they should be. I vote back up all data, pst files and office data and re-format.
Shoot Microsoft doesn't tie its application software to the Operating System to give it any unfair advantage. Bye the bye Microsoft just changed its policy today on support for Office and you only get twofree incidences. After that they charge. Up until now they gave almost unlimited general support.

Try to download this little util from MS. It called Office Windows Installer CleanUp Utility and the file name is msicuu.exe Send me an email and I could forward the util to you if you would like. This util gets rid of all the extra O2K install stuff.
