Welcome to Windows. Unfortunately, while they may seem like little configuration changes, almost everything concerning network configuration and connectivity is put into place or takes effect at bootup. Usually if Windows tells you that a configuration change requires a reboot, failure to do so is at your peril. This is a designed in behavior and there is no way to prevent it. Many times you will get a message saying in effect 'The changes you just made won't take effect until your reboot' and you are given a choice as to whether or not you want to reboot now. This instance is the only time you have a choice. If you choose not to reboot, then your changes won't take effect.

I would try removing all of the network components and re-adding them back.

Hi,

Yep, Windows 2000 Pro is certainly capable of changing its IP address without a reboot. The above answer looks good re: Removing and re-adding the network components. To be sure, go as far as removing the card itself.

But... on the card...How old is it? If its ancient, then I guess its possible that something about the card isn't as dynamic as it should be and demands a re-boot from windows...?

Cheers,
Tim.
