Al Gore, welcome to the dark side!

By maxwell edison ·
"Former U.S. Vice President Al Gore on Monday suggested taxing carbon dioxide emissions instead of employees' pay in a bid to stem global warming. ....'Penalizing pollution instead of penalizing employment will work to reduce that pollution,' Gore said in a speech at New York University School of Law. .....'The pollution tax would replace all payroll taxes, including those for Social Security and unemployment compensation', Gore said. He said the overall level of taxation, would remain the same. .....'Instead of discouraging businesses from hiring more employees it would discourage business from producing more pollution," Gore said.

So Al Gore is finally admitting that if you tax something, you get less of it; if you subsidize something, you get more of it. I wonder how that will play-out in Democrat circles?

Al Gore is finally admitting that taxing business actually hurts employees!

Al Gore is finally admitting that the tax-and-spend Democrat policies of the past have been harmful to business AND harmful to employees!

The hypocrisy is absolutely amazing!

The Perfect Solution

All we need to do now is tax terrorism! The more they hate us, the more they pay us! And there's no telling how much dust and other gasses those bombs are creating that both add and trap heat! It's Democratically Brilliant!

Gas Tax is pollution tax

by JamesRL In reply to Al Gore, welcome to the d ...

And it is very effective at reducing the number of big vehicles on the road.

But how would this pollution tax be administered? No point in putting in a tax that costs a lot to collect.

I think you would end up reducing one bureaucracy to create another.

In big countries it is

by Tony Hopkinson In reply to Gas Tax is pollution tax

the UK's heigh rate of fuel tax is killing all our native haulage. It's way less taxed in mainland europe so they can under cut the locals by significant margins.
So we lose businesses, mainland europe gains it, and even better they bring the fuel over, and they don't take the pollution back with them.

I'm always in favour of environmentally friendly goals, but we shot ourselves in the foot big style with this one. Didn't need to be Nostradamus to predict it either. We should make them pay our duty on what's in their tank or cut the tax to mainland levels for haulage.

Any person that slams a party just because is an idiot

I can tell you the things I like about the democrats, and there are many. Just like I can tell you whatt I dislike.

Can you at least take your thumb out of your *** long enough to do the same with the republicans?

...put your own bias on display for all to see.

By the way, are you in favor of taxing productivity and success? I'm not, and you can call that whatever you'd like.

Another dittohead heard from

by Grolan In reply to Al Gore, welcome to the d ...

You Republican Limbaugh dittohead droids just won't quit, will you?

Taxes are the price we pay to live in civilized society. Do you want a top notch army to protect you? Do you want police, firefighters, 911 service, decent roads to drive on, decent schools, etc.? These things are not free. They are paid for by taxes.

Stop whining about having to fulfill your civic obligations and be happy you're living in a prosperous, modern society that can provide all these things to you. Don't think it's worth it? Go live in Uganda or some similar godforsaken place for a year or so, and then tell us whether paying some taxes isn't so bad after all. If you're paying taxes, it means you're making money. Be happy.

Of course, we could talk about how the current republican administration is *wasting* our taxes - like starting a useless, unwinnable war, or failing to aide New Orleans, or burdening future generations with trillions in debt while giving tax breaks to millionaires who don't need it, but I'm guessing you don't really want to go there. I wouldn't either, if I were a red stater.

Just like the last administration

by DanLM In reply to Another dittohead heard f ...

Just like YOUR last president was a wuss and cut and ran when 18 of our soldiers were killed.

Just like YOUR last president spent how much of tax payers dollars sitting on a busy tar-mack getting his hair cut?

Just like YOUR last president actually followed the REPLUBICANS previously put in place procedures, which is THE ONLY reason the deficit went down. President Reagan's policies finally kicked in under President Clinton, President Clinton was just smart enough to realize that they were better policies then his.

Blaa, blaa, blaa... I bet you are still sitting with your thumb up your butt complaining about elections.

Gore wouldn't have had the balls to even go to Afghanistan and go after OBL. Like you have anything to brag about.

I can't think of a more unlikely person to become president then Al Gore. Hillary has more balls then he does, she should have run instead of that twit.

not to mention...

by vanessaj In reply to Just like the last admini ...

the...how many million dollars did he spend on lawyers to defend his "I did not have sex with that woman" statement? 2.5 million, wasn't it? Was that out of his pocket or ours? (not his.) Even though all along he knew it was a "misstatement" (as he put it). But that's okay, since it just kept him in office long enough to make sure he took half the White House (furniture) with him when he left. But we won't mention any of that. OR the fact that he used the oval office on (how many) occasions for less-than-notable presidential dealings - not with his wife and I wonder how many of our dollars he spent on litigation for those law suits...did anyone keep track? Again, not out of his pocket, either, were they? Nope. Government (that's us - you and me) paid for all of it.

So let me see...liar, cheat, theif, and we paid for ALL of it in many more ways than financially, too.

And didn't 911 show just what a vulnerable state he left us in (national security) after his admin? He couldn't have spent much time working on our national security, then, he was too busy, I suppose. And I guess H.C. didn't know about any of that, did she? I'm thinking that would be hard to miss. No...she's no angel, either. I wonder what piece of White House furniture she sits down to dinner on these days? Just a thought.

(Edited because anger grows with expression.)

You forgot about decimating our military

by rlgoers In reply to Just like the last admini ...

It's a wonder we have *any* military left after the Bill Clinton years... Funny it's the liberal IDIOTS who scream the loudest that it's an un-winnable war.

Think maybe the war would have been over months ago, if Billy-Bob could have kept his fly zipped, and attended to our country's defenses, rather than gutting it? How 'bout I **** off both your arms, then send you into battle? That's the same thing Clinton did to our military forces - He crippled them. And all you liberal idiots wonder why we have trouble in Iraq... ???

You frickin' liberals need to crawl back in your holes, and shut your mouths. Every time you open them, you prove just how stupid you are!
